Build Your Kingdoms

Hungry Out of Habit is an area control worldbuilding game for 2-6 players with no GM. We'll each play as the so-called rulers of neighboring kingdoms taking turns describing and inventing the world we're trying to control.

Players take turns adding things to the world and adjusting the loop of yarn that represents their kingdom's claim to the land of your table. Each turn, they visit the buffet and choose a plate. Plates have four types of entrees:

• Commanders, which attach to your yarn and help give your border definition
• Towns, which show where the common people live
• Stories, which offer a glimpse into the legends of the land
• Locales, which describe cultural regions that transcend borders

Each plate also has two side dishes, represented by playing cards. The suit of the card tells you what kind of side dish it is, and what to do with that side dish if it's already claimed:

• Clubs are Castles, which will be built or conquered
• Hearts are Landmarks, which are physical items placed on the table to hold your yarn 
• Spades are Terrain, which color the land with forests, cliffs, and sinkholes
• Diamonds are Surplus, which give a measure of appeal of anything on the table

At the end of the game, your table will be a map of warring kingdoms, complete with their borders, contested lands, famous commanders, interesting towns, and more. Why are you doing all of this? Why must you continually remake the map and stake claims on towns you'll never visit? Do you truly care, or are you just Hungry Out of Habit?

Hungry Out of Habit is a companion game to Uneasy Lies the Head, and shares some mechanics with its prologue. The games are bundled in Uneasy Lies the Head: The Royal Edition, available soon at shop.adambell.games. It works great as an introduction to a campaign of Uneasy or any other roleplaying game that could use a backdrop of intrigue and war.
